My Best Reselling Flips Ever

If you’re reselling long enough, you’re bound to find a few jackpots.

It takes a bit of skill, a dash of patience, and a sprinkle of luck.

Let’s get right to it. The following are some of my most profitable sales since I began reselling in 2019. Some are still worth money if you find them today. Some are not.

Thinkway Toys Toy Story RC Car

Sold July 2020 for $250

It’s a bit ironic, isn’t it? My single most profitable toy sale to date was a toy from the movie about toys.

I found RC here, sitting peacefully, on the bottom shelf of a thrift store toy aisle. He was taped all around to keep the remote with him, which really boosted the value. Toy Story may be a franchise today, but some of the original toys can go for big bucks.

Funko Hot Topic Exclusive Balloon Boy plush

Sold Feb 2022 for $199.95

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a weird one. It’s a horror-themed video game popular with the kiddos. It features animatronic animals that gives me PTSD flashbacks to 90s Chuck E. Cheese nightmares.

Five Nights at Freddy’s has become so popular there are even knockoff versions of some of the plush characters.

But it turns out Balloon Boy is a rather rare character to feature and Hot Topic made an exclusive plush release. I was lucky enough to find one with the tag still attached.

Vintage Eden Bear

Sold Aug 2022 for $149.95

Eden is often a plush brand worth hunting. However, it can be much harder to spot than your average Build-a-Bear or Beanie Babies.

This plush bear looked generic to me, but when I took a chance and looked up the comps, my eyes almost fell out of my head.

Even with a few stains and imperfections, he sold quick and high.

Squishable Sweet Lil Monster Limited Edition plush

Sold June 2022 for $140

Resellers are often asked, “How do you know what to buy?” Sometimes, you just know.

This plump plush easily caught my eye in the thrift store aisle. Turns out he was limited edition - 1 of 1,000 made. That’s built-in value for a solid brand.

There is only currently one listed, Brand new with tags, for $379.99. There are 18 watchers.

Blaze and the Monster Machines Cowboy truck

Sold Aug 2022 for $74.95

My nephew immediately loved Blaze and the Monster Machines because he shared his name with the main character. Naturally, I was then trained to spot the line of die-cast toy trucks.

One day, I brought an entire haul home. I was too excited to individually search them in the store. While Starla, the pink cowgirl, used to be worth a strong $50, it turns out this green cowboy was a rare one. And it still is!

Heroscape lot

Sold March 2021 for $76 and July 2021 for $74.95

If I can buy a big bag of toys for under $10, I take a good, hard look at that bag. It’s a thrill to spot one toy worth buying the entire bunch, and then going home to see what other goodies are inside.

But I was skeptical about this buy. It was a bag full of plastic little game pieces to a game I never heard of. Apparently, Heroscape is an expandable wargaming game made by Hasbro. It was discontinued in 2010.

I took the chance. And after doing research to see if any pieces needed to be sold off individually, I threw my hands up and auctioned it all off. Twice.

Prodigy Math Epics figure lot

Sold Dec 2021 for $175

Talk about right place, right time.

Prodigy offers games to help children learn. They sold a line of toy figures called Epics that would activate digital content. And they look eerily similar to Skylanders.

While Prodigy discontinued them in 2019, they brought the game back digitally in September 2021. My hunch was this blast of nostalgia fired up some buyers. And, to my luck, it was right around the holidays.

They don’t sell much anymore. Disillusioned.

Chap Mei True Legends Darkfire Dragon

Sold Nov 2021 for $90

How do you ignore a giant, snarling dragon? Trick question, you don’t.

I found this big boy as part of a large Chap Mei bundle off Facebook Marketplace.

The detail was a good sign of quality and even his wings flapped for full effect.

He still sells for well over $100.

Fisher Price Gummi Bears plush lot

Sold Sept 2021 for $79.95

They’ll make a cartoon out of anything, won’t they?

In the thrift store, I noticed three large, brightly-colored bears. When I went to look them up, I was pleasantly surprised. They can be lucrative on their own, but the more, the merrier.

Only 1 available as a lot.

LEGO medieval auction

Sold Feb 2021 for $73.24

Everyone knows LEGO can be valuable. With a quadtrillion pieces out in the world, though, it’s hard to know the worth. Often, complete sets or mini figures are your best bet. There are websites dedicated to the entire market.

But you need to decide what your time is worth. I knew vintage medieval LEGO pieces could be worth something. I didn’t want to take my time looking up each piece, so I took a shot and auctioned them off together. Easy as that.

Here Come the Brides First Season DVD set

Sold July 2019 for $129.99 and Oct 2022 for $70

I can safely say I never have and never plan to watch this show. But, boy, do I love it!

I even sold this same set again, three years later, and used, for $70.

Pokemon Center Limited Pikachu Mario plush

Sold June 2021 for $70

I didn’t even need to look this guy up. I saw Pikachu with a mustache and I was sold.

When it comes to plush, the weirder the better. It’s not a guarantee, but something weird more times than not does better than Mickey Mouse or a generic teddy bear.

Mighty Morphin Power Ranger flip head set

Sold Nov 2021 for $60

I grew up with the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, so I’m always trying to find them.

However, most toys of that era were mass-produced and aren’t worth as much as you’d guess today.

An exception to that rule is the Power Ranger Auto-Morphin figures. Or, as eBay sellers like to call them, flip heads. A full set of 6, even without their weapon accessories, can reach $75.
